I am Ed Arevalo. Native Austinite, Visual Artist.

Welcome to Bang It Out ATX!

(Procrastination as a VIRTUE!) what does that mean?

Well, my friends often say, "Ed, you always wait until the last minute, but then you BANG IT OUT, and the results are amazing!"

(I do my BEST work under pressure!)

Thus, the name of this website.

Backstory:

My Dad was a popular artist when he attended Austin High School, drawing for the school newspaper and other programs. (Hence, the creativity in our blood.)

He was 25 yrs old married to my Mom when I was born, and he always continued to create art. So, after my parents divorced, I lived with my Dad and my paternal grandparents. When I was about 5 years-old, he wanted to teach me how to be creative, (or maybe just keep me occupied while he worked.)

I remember he would lay me on the floor next to his easel with some tracing paper and a pencil. While he painted, he would have me trace cartoon characters from comics and coloring books. As I went through primary school, I continued to trace and hone my skills.

(As I grew older, I later realized he was developing my eye-to-hand coordination!)

At McCallum High School, I became popular for my original works of drawings, paintings, and mixed-media pieces that won numerous UIL competitions, leading to a scholarship to attend the University of Texas at Austin College of Fine Arts- Department of Art.

It was in college that I chose to take classes of various specialties, Life Drawing, Design, Sculpture (Wood, Clay and Metal), and also Painting- using Acrylics and Oils. I continued drawing classes working in graphite, pastels and other mediums, but my main focus was Serigraphic printmaking.

I graduated from the UT Austin with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Studio Art.

I am now an Artist-in Residence (through AmeriCorps), teaching Painting and drawing at Imagine Art- a non-profit that serves adults with intellectual and physical disabilities. (www.imagineart.net)

I plan to work towards a TCP (Teacher Certification Program) so I can teach in public schools!

Through my part-time opportunity at Imagine Art, I enjoy the experience working with special artists, as well as other Artists-in-Residence from AmeriCorps.

I appreciate you reading my Bio and wish you many Blessings! Have fun. Be Safe!
